Shanghai Securities Exchange Building, Financial skyscraper in Pudong, China

The Shanghai Securities Exchange Building is a 26-story financial structure in Pudong's financial district, defined by clean lines and a glass facade. It serves as the primary trading venue for securities in Shanghai and houses multiple financial institutions.

The structure was designed in 1993 and completed in 1997, marking the move from the former stock market location at Astor House Hotel. This relocation reflected Shanghai's expansion and the development of its new financial zone.

The Shanghai Stock Exchange traded at the Astor House Hotel from 1990 to 1997, and that hotel had housed the original market from 1920 to 1949. The exchange's move to this Pudong tower in December 1997 ended that chapter. Floors 2 to 9 are used by the exchange, while floors above 10 are offices.

The building sits near major transportation hubs, making it easy to reach by public transit. Note that it is an active financial center with limited public access, so visits are usually restricted to exterior viewing areas.

The flagpole on the roof adds 70 m to the building's height, bringing the total to 179 m. Before the Pudong tower opened on 19 December 1997, the exchange traded from 1990 to 1997 in the old Astor House Hotel, which had housed the original market from 1920 to 1949.
