Shanghai IFC, Postmodern twin towers in Pudong, China
Shanghai IFC consists of two 260-meter tall towers with 56 above-ground floors and 4 basement levels situated in the financial district. The buildings feature glass facades and contemporary architectural style.
Architect César Pelli designed these commercial towers, which opened in 2009 and marked a major addition to the growing Lujiazui financial district. The completion represented a key moment in Shanghai's emergence as a global financial hub.
The glass facades show how Pudong transformed from farmland into a financial hub, and visitors can see this modern design everywhere in the district. The towers represent what Shanghai became in recent decades.
The complex has 37 elevators for vertical transport and connects directly to multiple subway lines, making it easy to reach. Visitors can access the area comfortably using public transportation and find nearby amenities throughout the financial district.
The structural design allows natural light to penetrate deeply into each floor, creating bright interior spaces that might surprise visitors. This clever approach keeps the inside feeling open despite the tower's great height.
