Fuyou Road Mosque

Fuyou Road Mosque is a three-story prayer center occupying roughly 1,520 square meters in Shanghai. A rectangular courtyard marks the entrance, with the main prayer hall located toward the south side of the building.

The mosque was founded in 1870 when thirty-one Muslim residents pooled their resources to purchase land for a prayer house during the Qing Dynasty. This effort began a religious community that took root in Shanghai during this period.

The mosque displays traditional Qing Dynasty architectural elements, with decorative patterns and carved details visible on the roof beams and walls. These design choices reflect how classical Chinese building methods shaped the structure of this Muslim prayer space.

The building is located in Huangpu District and is best reached on foot from Yuyuan Garden Metro Station. Being near other historical sites in this neighborhood makes it easy to combine a visit with further exploration of the area.

The Wangyue Pavilion on the rooftop stands out as one of the building's most distinctive features and provides a high vantage point overlooking the surroundings. Inside, beyond the prayer hall, the structure contains libraries and meeting spaces that show how this place serves multiple purposes for the community.
