Fosun Foundation, Cultural center in Shanghai's Bund district, China
The Fosun Foundation is a large complex in Shanghai's Bund district featuring twin towers and extensive waterfront access along the Huangpu River. The structure combines an art center, retail spaces across multiple levels, and dining venues in a single integrated development.
The complex opened in 2019 after a decade-long development process that reshaped a portion of Shanghai's financial district. This project marked a turning point in how the Bund district evolved as a mixed-use destination.
The foundation houses an art center featuring a moving curtain system that responds to musical compositions, creating a dynamic space for viewing contemporary works. Visitors experience a blend of performance and visual art within a single environment.
The site features numerous retail shops, including over 50 independent design stores and international brands spread across multiple levels. Visiting on a quieter weekday allows for a more comfortable exploration of all the spaces.
The building's design draws inspiration from traditional Chinese theater stages, merging local architectural heritage with modern construction techniques. This historical reference subtly appears in the interior proportions and spatial organization.
