Yantian District, Administrative district in eastern Shenzhen, China.
Yantian is an administrative district in eastern Shenzhen that extends along the coast, featuring mountainous terrain alongside sandy beaches. The area encompasses several subdistricts and shares borders with neighboring districts such as Luohu and Longgang.
The district came into being in 1998 when it separated from Luohu, with its development closely tied to the expansion of Yantian Port. This independence marked a turning point in the industrial growth of eastern Shenzhen.
The Shatoujiao Fish Dance, a recognized form of intangible heritage, expresses the maritime traditions of this coastal community through its movements and performances. This dance form reflects the deep connection between the people and the sea, rooted in their history as fishing communities.
The district is divided into four subdistricts and is well-served by bus routes that connect different neighborhoods. An upcoming metro extension will eventually provide additional transportation links across the area.
A specialized free trade zone emerged here in the 1990s, focusing on printing, logistics, and distribution businesses. This economic hub has quietly shaped much of the port area's development without much public attention.
