The complete rectangular defensive wall extends for 14 kilometers around the old city center with a height of 12 meters.
The Ming Dynasty constructed these fortifications between 1374 and 1378 upon the foundations of the former Tang Dynasty imperial city.
The four cardinal gates demonstrate traditional Chinese military architecture, with the South Gate serving as the principal entrance to the ancient metropolis.
Visitors can rent bicycles to circle the entire fortification path, which takes approximately two hours to complete the full circuit.
The structure contains a combination of earth, quicklime, and glutinous rice in its core, making it exceptionally durable throughout centuries.
