Deep Water Bay, Residential neighborhood and bay in Southern District, Hong Kong
Deep Water Bay is a residential neighborhood and bay along the southern shore of Hong Kong Island. The area spreads across three main streets and is bordered by Shouson Hill, Brick Hill, and Violet Hill.
The area first appeared on British maps in 1841 as Heong Kong Bay, with a small village nearby. As Hong Kong grew, this locality remained a quiet residential area separate from major development.
The neighborhood keeps low building density and preserves traditional residential patterns without high-rise developments found elsewhere. Walking through, you notice a slower pace of life compared to Hong Kong's busier districts.
The neighborhood is accessible by multiple bus routes connecting to Central, North Point Ferry, Cyberport, and Tsim Sha Tsui station. Visit during quieter times to enjoy the streets without heavy crowds.
Three streets here are known to house some of Hong Kong's wealthiest residents, making it one of the most exclusive residential areas. The concentration of wealth in such a small neighborhood is striking.
