Po Leung Kuk Museum, History museum in Wan Chai District, Hong Kong.
The Po Leung Kuk Museum is housed in the organization's main headquarters on Leighton Road and displays its work across several exhibition spaces. The building also contains archives and conservation rooms where historical materials and objects are stored and cared for.
The organization was founded in 1878 when local Chinese citizens asked Governor Sir John Pope Hennessy to create an institution to combat child trafficking. This founding moment shows how the community responded to a serious social problem of that time.
The museum displays how social welfare work in Hong Kong has changed since the 1800s, shown through documents and photographs that tell this story. Visitors can see how the organization adapted its work to help different groups over time.
The museum is open Monday through Saturday from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM and remains closed on Sundays. Visitors can explore the Exhibition Hall and Old Hall at their own pace during these hours.
The building is a Grade 1 historic structure with impressive architectural details from its era. A virtual 360-degree tour lets visitors view areas that are normally not open to the public.
