Парк имени Сталина, Public park in Harbin, China
Stalin Park is a public riverside park along the northern bank of the Songhua River in Harbin, China, with wide walking paths and open green areas. It runs for a good stretch along the water and can be entered from several points, all free of charge.
The park was laid out in 1953, shortly after Stalin's death, and was first known as Riverside Park. It was renamed in his honor during a period when China and the Soviet Union maintained close ties.
The park is a favorite gathering spot for locals, who come to walk, dance, or simply sit by the Songhua River on weekends. A few old Russian-era buildings along the grounds give the place a character unlike most parks in northern China.
The park sits right on the riverbank and is easy to reach from central Harbin on foot or by public transport. The paths are long, so comfortable shoes and enough time to walk at a relaxed pace are worth planning for.
Near the main entrance stands a monument called 'Victory Over Flood', marking the point where the Songhua River reached its highest recorded level during the 1957 flood. The marker makes the scale of that event concrete in a way that is easy to miss if you walk past quickly.
