Lai Tak Tsuen, Public housing estate in Wan Chai District, Hong Kong.
Lai Tak Tsuen is a public housing estate in Wan Chai District comprising three main buildings with 2,677 flats distributed across eight blocks. The complex covers approximately 25,548 square meters and includes multiple shared facilities for residents.
The estate was built between 1975 and 1976 as the second self-funded rental project by the Hong Kong Housing Society. The project had experienced construction delays starting in 1972 before actual building work commenced.
The estate is named after Michael Wright, a government officer who advanced public housing by introducing private toilets and kitchens in flats. This innovation made daily life more comfortable for residents at that time.
The estate offers carparks with EV chargers, a kindergarten, shops, and an elderly center for residents. Additional facilities include a youth center, library, basketball court, and playground for various needs.
The estate features two cylindrical towers with a central atrium design that brings natural light into the flats. This architectural approach reduces energy consumption through improved ventilation and light control.
