広州救主堂, Gothic Revival cathedral in Guangzhou, China.
The Guangzhou cathedral is a church building in Gothic Revival style that stands on the north bank of the Pearl River. The structure features two towers, with one housing bells and the other containing clocks, while the entire building was constructed from solid granite blocks.
Construction of the building began in 1861 and was completed in 1888 on the site of a former residence. The project received support from abroad during a period of significant foreign presence in the region.
The cathedral serves congregations from different backgrounds who gather for services throughout the week. People from the local community and beyond visit to participate in worship and religious observances.
The building is located in the city center in an accessible spot near the river. Visitors should keep in mind that this is an active place of worship where quiet behavior is expected during services.
The entire building was constructed solely from granite, making it a rare example among world cathedrals. This choice of material gave the structure exceptional durability and a distinctive appearance.
