Shui Chuen O Estate, Public rental housing complex in Sha Tin District, Hong Kong.
Shui Chuen O Estate is a public rental housing development in Sha Tin District, Hong Kong, formed by 18 residential towers with over 11,000 flats. A commercial center with 59 shops and an indoor market complements the apartment blocks and serves the roughly 28,800 people living here.
China State Construction began building the development in 2014, and residents started moving in during 2015. The project was part of the government's housing program in Hong Kong, responding to growing demand for affordable housing.
The name Shui Chuen O comes from Cantonese and means Water Spring Bay, a reference to the area's earlier landscape. Residents today use the ground-level shops and the network of pedestrian paths that shape daily life in this densely populated neighborhood.
Several lift towers, footbridges, and escalator connections link the different parts of the development. Visitors exploring the area should pay attention to signs, as the hillside layout and the many transitions can easily become confusing.
A footbridge stretching 70 meters spans a section of the development and is the longest covered walkway in any public housing project in Hong Kong. The structure makes it easier for residents to reach the higher blocks without taking the steep paths.
