Badaling Zoo

Badaling Zoo is a wildlife facility spanning 402 hectares of natural landscape at the base of Badaling Mountain. The space features multiple animal habitats arranged across hilly terrain with viewing areas positioned throughout the grounds.

The zoo opened in 1998 and grew into a major conservation center over the following decades. It became particularly known for large-scale breeding and care of specific wild species on the Asian continent.

The facility integrates traditional Chinese architectural elements with modern wildlife management practices, offering educational programs about animal conservation.

The facility is accessible via the Badaling Expressway with bus connections from central Beijing arriving regularly. The grounds are extensive, so comfortable walking shoes and several hours are recommended for exploring the different sections.

The facility operates specialized breeding programs for endangered species and has achieved significant success in reproducing rare large carnivores. This focus makes it an important research location for maintaining these animals in controlled environments.
