Hotel Central, hotel in Macau
Hotel Central is an 11-story building with 114 rooms located in downtown Macau near Almeida Ribeiro Avenue. Each room is decorated to reflect different historical periods, with themed furnishings and period-appropriate details from the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s.
The hotel opened in 1928 and was once the tallest building in Macau and the largest in the Portuguese Empire. In the 1940s, five additional floors were added, making it a gambling hub that introduced games like baccarat to the city.
The hotel reflects Macau's deep connection to gaming and entertainment through its décor and design choices. Period furnishings, old typewriters, and vintage photographs throughout the rooms connect visitors to the city's past and its role in shaping entertainment culture.
The hotel is located in central Macau, about 15 minutes by car from the airport, with convenient access to major attractions. Check-in is on the fourth floor with elevators connecting all levels, and rooms feature air conditioning, soundproof windows, and mini-bars with local items.
After a complete ground-up renovation, the hotel reopened in 2024 combining vintage aesthetics with modern amenities. Behind this stands a remarkable personal story: a boy who once admired the building's workers later returned to restore it, turning a childhood dream into reality.
