Mohe Temple, Xikou

Mohe Temple is a Buddhist sanctuary in Fenghua with multiple prayer halls arranged around courtyards, each decorated with hand-carved details and traditional ornaments. The layout follows classical Chinese design principles, with curved roofs and columns organizing the internal spaces into distinct sections.

The temple was founded during the Ming Dynasty and later became connected to the Former Residence of Chiang Kai-shek complex in the area. It received national cultural protection status in 2002.

The temple remains a working place of worship where visitors can observe how locals practice Buddhism through daily rituals and seasonal ceremonies. The space reflects the spiritual traditions that have shaped this region for generations.

Visitors walk through the temple grounds on marked paths connecting the various buildings and courtyards. Comfortable shoes are recommended since you will be moving between different levels and outdoor spaces.

Within the prayer halls are stone formations positioned according to ancient Chinese astronomical calculations that align with celestial patterns. This feature reveals how architecture and observation of the heavens were woven together in traditional design.
