Statue of Guan Yu, Bronze statue in Jingzhou, China
The Statue of Guan Yu is a 57-meter bronze monument in Jingzhou showing the general holding his crescent blade weapon. The work rests on a base shaped like an ancient Chinese warship and houses a museum across seven floors.
The monument was built in 2016 under the direction of artist Han Meilin to honor the general from the Three Kingdoms period. It was dismantled in 2022 and moved to a different location.
The general became a symbol of loyalty and brotherhood in Chinese tradition and appears today in temples, shops, and homes across the country. Many visitors come here to understand the connection between the historical figure and his continuing presence in everyday life.
Access to the museum inside the base takes visitors through several levels of exhibits about the general's life and meaning. The site lies near the old town of Jingzhou and can be reached by public transport.
The bronze structure is made from 4,000 individual metal strips assembled during construction. The base covers an area of more than 7,000 square meters and originally served as the foundation for the entire structure.
