Xi'an Olympic Sports Center, sports complex in Baqiao, Xi'an, Shaanxi, China
The Xi'an Olympic Sports Center is a large sports complex with a stadium holding 60,000 spectators, an indoor gymnasium, and a swimming center in Xi'an. The modern facilities were built between 2017 and 2020 and spread across about 52 hectares of land next to the Bahe River.
The center was founded in 2017 and completed in 2020, designed to serve as a venue for national competitions. It hosted the track and field and swimming events as well as the opening and closing ceremonies of China's National Games in 2021.
The center is easily accessible by public transport: bus route 14 serves the complex and Metro Line 3 connects it to Aotizhongxin station. The site is about 28 km from the airport and 10 km from the main train station.
The stadium lights up at night with over 400,000 LED bulbs that can display different colors and images like a giant screen. The wavy roof design with 28 V-shaped columns was inspired by the pomegranate flower and resembles traditional Chinese ribbon dance when viewed from the side.
