Mittelsachsen

Mittelsachsen spans 2,112 square kilometers between the Ore Mountains and northern plains, with elevations ranging from 140 to 855 meters above sea level.

The district emerged in 2008 through the consolidation of three former administrative regions: Döbeln, Freiberg, and Mittweida, following Saxony's territorial reform.

The district capital Freiberg maintains the Technische Universität Bergakademie, which continues the educational traditions of mining and geological sciences in the region.

The transportation network includes major motorways A4, A14, and A72, connecting the district to Dresden, Leipzig, and Chemnitz through an extensive system of roads.

The district contains both the Zwickauer and Freiberger Mulde rivers, which shape the landscape and contribute to the varying geographical features of the region.
