Würzburg, Administrative district in Bavaria, Germany.
Würzburg district is an administrative area in Lower Franconia that surrounds the city of Würzburg and covers approximately 968 square kilometers. The region comprises more than 50 municipalities and several market towns that together form a predominantly rural landscape.
The district took its current form in 1972 when the former districts of Würzburg and Ochsenfurt merged along with neighboring municipalities. This consolidation created the foundation for the region's present administrative structure.
The district maintains international partnerships with the Mateh Yehuda Regional Council in Israel and the Olomouc Region in the Czech Republic.
The area is best explored by car or train since municipalities are spread across the region. Visitors should keep in mind that many smaller towns offer limited public transportation options.
The district's coat of arms features the Franconian rake pattern, a traditional symbol of the Franks dating back to medieval times. This historical connection also appears in references to important religious monuments scattered throughout the area.
