Adler Apotheke

The Adler Apotheke is a three-story building with traditional design elements located at the Alter Markt in Dortmund. A museum area inside displays one of Germany's largest private collections of pharmaceutical instruments and historical objects.

The business was founded in 1322 and has operated continuously at the same location since that time. It holds the distinction of being Dortmund's oldest continuously operating business.

The building shapes the character of the old market square with its craft-made facade that visitors notice immediately. The interior shows how pharmacists worked in earlier times and what tools they used.

The business is open through 9 PM Monday through Saturday and provides both pharmacy services and individually prepared medications. Visitors can enter the rooms and explore the collection on-site.

In the basement areas, pharmacists today still operate specialized laboratories where they prepare medications individually according to customer needs. This craft tradition goes back several centuries.
