Buschmühle, Restaurant and estate in Westfalenpark, Dortmund, Germany
Buschmühle is a restaurant and estate in Westfalenpark comprising three structures: the main building with restaurant facilities, a tenant house, and a pavilion overlooking Buschmühlenteich. The complex displays steel and glass construction methods combined with dark wood facades and yellow brick detailing.
The site's first documented reference dates to 1378 when a citizen was granted permission to construct a mill house at the Emscher river. The present buildings arose in the 1950s as a modern reinterpretation of that mill tradition.
The name Buschmühle recalls the mill that once operated here and shaped the area's identity. Today visitors encounter mid-century design with distinctive steel and glass elements combined with tropical wood details.
The restaurant remains closed since 2020 pending major renovation work, though the grounds with its buildings and lakeside pavilion remain accessible. Visitors can explore the property and enjoy the surrounding park areas at their own pace.
The property will be integrated into a new bicycle junction system along the Emscher Route during the 2027 International Garden Exhibition. This development will reposition the site as a key stopping point within a larger cycling network.
