Hirschberg, Mountain peak in Bavarian Fore-alps, Germany.
Hirschberg is a mountain peak in the Bavarian Fore-alps rising 1668 meters high. From the summit you can see across Lake Tegernsee and the surrounding Mangfallgebirge mountain range.
A mountain restaurant was built high on this peak during the early days of Alpine tourism in Bavaria and has served hikers for many decades. This made it one of the first places in the region to cater to visitors in this way.
The name Hirschberg refers to the deer that live in this region. The steep meadows and forests that cover the slopes remain central to how locals and visitors experience this mountain.
Hiking paths lead to the summit from several directions such as Scharling, Kreuth, and Bad Wiessee. The Hirschberghaus at the top provides food and drinks throughout the year.
In winter a toboggan run descends from here to Hirschlacke offering an alternative way down the mountain. This route is popular with those who want a different kind of descent.
