Bolmke, Nature reserve in Brünninghausen, Dortmund, Germany
Bolmke is a nature reserve located south of Westfalenstadion that spans across multiple hectares. The terrain features diverse woodland with poplars, alders, beech, and oak trees that create a varied natural landscape.
Protection of this area began in 1991 when the first sections along the Emscher floodplains received conservation status through official designation. This action reflected growing efforts to restore the river landscape in the region.
The Schultenhof at the upper edge serves as a social gathering spot where visitors enjoy coffee and cake outdoors during summer months. This small cafe shapes daily life here and draws local people together for informal meetings.
This reserve is accessible throughout the day and allows dogs to roam freely without leashes. The pathways work well for jogging and general outdoor activities.
This area represents the last remaining section of the former extensive Emscher floodplains that once stretched between Hörde and Barop. Visitors can observe traces of how the river once flowed in wide curves through the landscape before engineering changed its course.
