Westpark, Public park in western Dortmund, Germany.
Westpark is a public green space in western Dortmund with two large playgrounds, barbecue areas, and a dedicated dog section. The site spans a central location and connects several surrounding neighborhoods.
The site was originally a cemetery called Westentotenhof established in 1811 outside the city walls. When a new main cemetery opened in 1912, the land was transformed into the present-day park.
The Westparkfest in May draws thousands of residents together for music performances and community activities. The Ruhr area second-hand market forms a central part of this yearly gathering.
The park offers spaces for jogging, picnicking, and outdoor games with multiple entrances connecting to the Innenstadt-West, Unionviertel, and Klinikviertel neighborhoods. Visitors should know that the various areas are easily walkable with paths running in different directions.
At the northeastern entrance stands a memorial marking the location of a former Jewish cemetery that existed from 1815 until the 1940s. This site preserves memory of an important part of local history that visitors often overlook.
