Oststadt covers 85 hectares in central Hannover and houses over 14,000 residents with a population density of 168 inhabitants per hectare, making it one of the most densely populated districts in the city with diverse architectural styles.

The district's development was significantly shaped by the construction of the underground railway network in the 1970s, which transformed Lister Meile into a pedestrian shopping zone connecting the central station to Lister Platz.

The Kulturzentrum Pavillon serves as the cultural heart of the district, hosting exhibitions and community gatherings, while the multicultural character is reflected in the fact that nearly a quarter of residents have migration backgrounds.

The district features over 8,300 residential units distributed across more than 1,000 buildings, with good public transport connectivity and approximately 5,480 registered vehicles supporting local mobility and daily commuting needs.

Oststadt actively participates in urban logistics research projects like USEfUL, which models and simulates logistics concepts tailored to its specific structure and needs, enhancing city planning efficiency and sustainable urban development practices.
