Rammelsberg-Kaserne, Military barracks in Goslar, Germany
Rammelsberg-Kaserne is a military barracks in Goslar featuring Neo-Renaissance style with a dome-topped central section and two perpendicular wings extending outward. The compound includes a courtyard with connected service buildings, stables, and auxiliary structures surrounding the main structure.
The barracks was built between 1912 and 1914 to house the Hannoversche Jäger-Bataillon Nr. 10 with military design standards. Following World War II, it later served as a Federal Border Protection facility.
The building shows architectural elements from the Weser Renaissance movement, blending regional construction traditions with military design needs. Visitors can see how this combination of practical requirements and local style shaped the details of the facade.
Today the site functions as EnergieCampus Goslar, housing research facilities including the Energy Research Center and Fraunhofer Institute for Telecommunications. Visitors should note that most areas are actively used for research purposes, so access may be limited in parts of the compound.
A grand staircase leads to the Ehrenhof courtyard, a central area connecting the main building to auxiliary structures including a former orangery. This elegant connection between residential and functional buildings shows how the complex was designed for diverse purposes.
