Mittelalterliches Dorf Steinrode, Medieval learning village in Hann. Münden, Germany.
The Medieval Village Steinrode is a reconstructed settlement near Hann. Münden showing eight timber-framed buildings enclosed by a palisade fence. Inside the perimeter, visitors find a church, a kitchen house, a blacksmith workshop, a pottery studio, and residential quarters.
Construction began in 2004 as a collaborative project bringing together children, teenagers, and adults at the Kleiner Steinberg site. Funding came from the environmental lottery Bingo, which supported educational initiatives of this kind.
School groups visit to experience medieval crafts and daily life firsthand, working with materials and tools as people once did. The separate buildings show how different types of work happened in the community and what skills mattered most.
The village opens one Sunday per month from March to October, while other visits need advance booking. Contacting by phone or email beforehand is the best way to arrange your visit and learn what activities are planned for your group.
A working drawbridge and gatehouse mark the entrance, immediately transporting visitors to a fortified community from centuries past. This operating entrance feature creates an immersive sense of stepping back in time and makes the experience memorable.
