Skete Hagias Triados

Skete Hagias Triados comprises scattered monastic cells distributed across the Great Lavra territory amid Mediterranean forest and coastal views. Simple stone buildings are linked by forest paths and organized as a loose settlement for contemplative life.

This skete emerged in the 17th century when hermits settled in this section of Mount Athos and built simple structures for prayer. The settlement gradually developed into an organized community of monks and craftspeople.

Visiting requires special permission from Mount Athos authorities, typically arranged through organized pilgrimages rather than independent travel. Spring through autumn offers the most comfortable conditions for walking the forest paths that connect the scattered buildings.

The name Kafsokalyvia means burned huts, stemming from a legend about fire that struck the early settlement. The simple structures kept this name as a reminder of those difficult beginnings.
