HMT Royal Edward, Military transport ship in Aegean Sea, Greece.

The HMT Royal Edward extended 160.36 meters in length and operated as a passenger mail steamer for the Canadian Northern Steamship Company in 1907.

Originally named RMS Cairo, the ship served mail routes between Marseilles and Alexandria before its acquisition by Canadian Northern Railway in 1910.

The crew records reveal a multinational maritime workforce, including members from Wiltshire, Bristol, Russia, Malta, Norway, and Greece during its operations.

The vessel contained specialized sections for both passenger transport and mail service, with dedicated areas for military personnel during wartime operations.

German submarine UB-14 torpedoed the Royal Edward on August 13, 1915, causing the ship to sink within six minutes near coordinates 36.31N, 25.51E.
