Vyros Gorge, Canyon in Outer Mani region, Peloponnese, Greece.

Vyros Gorge is a canyon cutting through the mountains of Outer Mani between a high peak and a coastal bay, with steep limestone walls on either side. The passage features alternating sections of narrow rock corridors and more open areas with varied terrain and geological formations.

The gorge formed part of an ancient trade route connecting inland mountain regions with coastal ports for centuries. This pathway maintained steady communication and movement of goods between different areas of the Peloponnese.

The gorge serves as a natural corridor through the mountains that locals and visitors have used for centuries. Its narrow passages and rock formations create a strong sense of moving through a living landscape shaped by generations of travel.

The gorge can be entered from several points along the route, allowing visitors to choose different starting locations based on their hiking experience. Spring and autumn months work well for visiting, as these seasons offer cooler temperatures and stable ground conditions.

The water flowing through the gorge changes dramatically with seasons, becoming a rushing stream in winter when mountain snows melt. This seasonal shift transforms the entire character of the passage and presents different challenges for anyone walking through it.
