Temple of Athena Pronaia

The Temple of Athena Pronaia is an ancient Greek temple complex at the entrance of the Delphi archaeological site. The sanctuary contains several structures, including a circular building with Doric columns made from white marble.

The complex was built during the classical period and suffered damage from natural disasters including rockfalls and earthquakes. These events shaped the site's history and caused repeated destruction across the centuries.

The sanctuary was dedicated to protecting the sacred site, showing how the Greeks linked their holy places to multiple deities. Visitors can still see this religious structure reflected in the remaining foundations and column fragments today.

The site is accessible through the main Delphi complex and can be reached on foot from there. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes since the terrain is hilly and some areas require walking across uneven ground.

A circular building with white and dark stone reveals the refined architecture of classical Greeks. This contrasting color scheme is a rare example of deliberate design in ancient sanctuaries.
