Holy Spirit Rock

Holy Spirit Rock is a towering sandstone pillar that rises dramatically from the landscape near Kalabaka and forms part of the larger Meteora complex. Standing roughly 600 meters (1,969 feet) high, it is one of many similar formations that create this distinctive natural environment.

Monastic communities started settling on these rock pillars from the 9th century onward, seeking refuge from outside threats. This movement established a lasting tradition of spiritual life that continues to define the area.
