Haut-Rhin, Administrative department in Grand Est region, France

The department stretches along the Rhine River bordering Germany and Switzerland, featuring fertile plains, urban centers, and mountainous landscapes reaching the Grand Ballon peak.

Established on March 4, 1790, during the French Revolution, Haut-Rhin emerged from the southern portion of the former Alsace province with Colmar as its administrative center.

The department maintains strong regional traditions through its architecture, markets, festivals, and wine production along the Alsace Wine Trail connecting numerous municipalities.

The department consists of six districts encompassing 31 cantons and 377 communes, with Mulhouse serving as the industrial center housing major automotive manufacturing facilities.

The region experiences remarkably low unemployment rates in the Sundgau area, where many residents work in Switzerland while maintaining residences in France for economic advantages.
