Petit Pont, Stone bridge in 5th arrondissement, France.

The Petit Pont spans 32 meters across the Seine River, connecting the Left Bank to Île de la Cité through a single stone arch.

The original bridge at this location was mentioned by Julius Caesar during the Gallic Wars, marking one of the earliest Seine River crossings.

During medieval times, the bridge served as a platform for philosophers, performers, and merchants who gathered to share their knowledge and goods.

The bridge accommodates both vehicle and pedestrian traffic, with direct access to Saint-Michel metro station and multiple bus lines.

Engineer Alexandre Michal designed the current structure in 1853 with a single arch span, replacing previous multi-arch versions that were vulnerable to floods.

Historical sites in Paris Quartier Latin

The Quartier Latin combines Roman ruins, medieval churches, and historic universities. The Arènes de Lutèce displays Roman origins, while the Sorbonne and Collège de France represent academic tradition. Between old libraries and botanical gardens, narrow streets lead to hidden squares and traditional cafés.
