Verdon Regional Natural Park, Regional natural park in Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, France
The Verdon Regional Natural Park extends across 180,000 hectares, featuring deep gorges, lakes, and plateaus between the Alps and Mediterranean regions.
Established in 1997, the park encompasses 46 municipalities across Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and Var departments, preserving ancient Roman temples and prehistoric settlements.
Local farmers maintain traditional agricultural methods on the Valensole plateau, cultivating lavender fields and durum wheat crops on rocky terrains.
The park offers designated hiking trails, camping areas, and water activities at Lakes Sainte-Croix, Castillon, Esparron, and Quinson throughout the year.
The park contains three major massifs reaching 1,930 meters in height and supports one-third of all French flower species in its varied ecosystems.
