Bourgogne montrecul, Winery in Côte-d'Or, France
Bourgogne Montrecul is a small vineyard of about five hectares in the Côte-d'Or that grows red wines from Pinot Noir grapes. The vines sit on an east-facing slope at an elevation between 250 and 300 meters.
This vineyard is a remnant of Dijon's former wine industry, which largely disappeared in the 19th century when Phylloxera and city expansion destroyed many vineyards. The site now marks a point where the wine tradition of the area began to be restored.
The name Montrecul comes from the steep slope and the posture vineyard workers adopted during harvest time. Walking through the rows today, you can still sense how closely the work and the land are connected.
Visitors can arrange tastings in advance through local wine tourism contacts in the Burgundy region. It is best to reach out before your visit to confirm that a tasting session can be scheduled.
The soil here is limestone mixed with clay and red sandy loam, creating conditions found nowhere else in this northernmost named section of the Côte d'Or. This combination shapes the flavor profile of the wines in ways that set them apart.
