Villa Fiorentina, Renaissance Revival villa in Californie district, Cannes, France.
Villa Fiorentina is a mansion in Cannes built with Italian Renaissance Revival features and located along avenue de Poralto. The grounds feature terraced gardens arranged in Italian style, fountains, a Venetian well, and decorative sculptures spread throughout the property.
The property was built in 1880 by architects Eugene Lizero and Louis Lafond in the late 19th century style. In 1894, Count Philippe Vitali acquired it and transformed the original English gardens into landscapes inspired by Tuscany.
A chapel in Florentine style sits within the grounds and was later claimed by painter Emmanuel Bellini as his art studio, now serving as a small museum. The space shows how the artist worked and displays pieces created there.
The property has been divided into apartments since 1953 and operates as a residential complex today. Visitors should keep in mind that access is limited as the estate remains partly occupied by residents.
During World War I the estate served as a field hospital providing medical care to wounded soldiers within its walls. The Renaissance Revival structure thus played a crucial role in wartime relief efforts.
