Auberge de Super-Cannes, Heritage restaurant in Cannes, France.
The Auberge de Super-Cannes is a restaurant building with modern architecture located atop the California massif above Cannes. The structure features a semi-circular form with a spacious terrace and a circular balcony wrapping around the first floor.
The building was constructed in 1939 according to architect René Livieri's plans as a restaurant for the Super-Cannes Hotel Society. Operations ceased in 1966 when the funicular service that served the hilltop location was discontinued.
The building represents the evolution of French architectural styles, combining modernist principles with regional characteristics in its structural elements and design approach.
The building sits atop the California massif and is not accessible today since the funicular no longer operates. The site is difficult to reach and can only be approached on foot via steep paths.
The original plan for a grand hotel on this hillside was abandoned following architect Édouard-Jean Niermans's death in 1928. The restaurant building emerged later as an alternative design for the mountain station.
