Moustoir tumulus, Neolithic burial mound in Carnac, France.
Moustoir tumulus is a Neolithic burial mound in Carnac that rises noticeably above the surrounding landscape with a standing stone crowning its top. Its interior contains a central chamber and burial cists arranged within the earthen structure.
The mound was built during the Neolithic period as a burial ground for an early Breton community. Archaeological work in the 1800s uncovered its internal arrangement and revealed objects stored within it.
The presence of burial chambers and ceremonial stones indicates the structure's role in prehistoric funeral practices of Brittany's early inhabitants.
The site is open year-round and sits along the road toward Le Moustoir village, making it easy to find from the main path. Visitors can approach on foot without obstacles or special requirements.
A standing stone that originally crowned the mound fell over and was later rediscovered during excavations, then restored to its original position. This restoration preserves how the site looked when it was first built.
