Medieval Louvre, Medieval exhibit at Louvre Museum, France
The Medieval Louvre exhibition showcases remains and models of a fortress from the Middle Ages that was later transformed into a royal palace. The route guides visitors through the northern wall, central gate structure, and eastern fortifications with models and archaeological finds explaining this transformation.
The fortress was founded in the 12th century as a defensive structure and gradually transformed into a royal palace over time. Archaeological excavations revealed parts of the original structure that were preserved beneath the current building.
The exhibition displays medieval craft objects, helmets, and vessels that reveal how people lived and worked during this period. These items come from different social classes and show daily routines within and around the fortress community.
Access to the exhibition is located in the underground areas of the museum, reached by stairs from the main galleries. Comfortable shoes are recommended since the terrain is uneven and requires extended standing and walking.
The exhibition displays the actual base of the original donjon and sections of the fortress walls that were uncovered during museum renovation. These archaeological finds allow visitors to see the real defensive structure and understand its original dimensions.
