Cime de la Vallette, Alpine summit in Mercantour National Park, France
Cime de la Vallette is an alpine summit rising to 2446 meters (8024 ft) within Mercantour National Park in southeastern France. The peak commands a panoramic landscape with rocky terrain and open slopes that reveal expansive views across the surrounding valleys and ridge lines.
The peak served as a natural reference point for shepherds moving herds through alpine passages over many centuries. Its position marked the boundary between adjacent mountain valleys and guided pastoral movement across the high terrain.
The ascent passes through the Madone de Fenestre sanctuary at 1903 meters, a traditional pilgrimage site connecting spiritual and natural heritage.
The hike begins from a parking area near the Madone de Fenestre chapel and follows marked trails to the summit. Sturdy footwear and proper mountain gear are necessary since the terrain is exposed and weather can change rapidly at elevation.
The route crosses the Prals Valley with its mountain lakes and passes through Baisse de Prals before reaching the summit cross. These glacial lakes serve as striking visual markers that break up the high-altitude terrain and reveal the region's geological diversity.
