Sukhumi, Port city in Abkhazia, Georgia
The city extends along the Black Sea coast with stone beaches, surrounded by mountains and Mediterranean vegetation at an elevation of 20 meters.
Founded as Dioscurias in the 6th century BC by Greek settlers, the city functioned as a Roman trading post before disappearing under the Black Sea.
The Sukhumi Botanical Garden, established in 1840, contains over 4,500 plant species from different regions across five continents.
The central market offers fresh produce daily, while the seafront promenade contains numerous restaurants serving Georgian and Abkhazian specialties.
The Besleti Bridge, constructed in the 12th century without any connecting materials, remains intact and continues to span the Besleti River.
