Pshav-Khevsureti National Park

Pshav-Khevsureti National Park is a large protected area in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti mountain region in northeastern Georgia, characterized by deep valleys, open meadows, and dramatic gorges. The landscape includes steep slopes and medieval villages scattered throughout the terrain.

The park was established in 2014 with support from the World Wide Fund for Nature to protect the region and its medieval settlements. Villages like Shatili, Mutso, Ardoti, and Khakhabo have stood in these mountains for centuries as evidence of long-term human settlement.

This land is home to the Pshav and Khevsur peoples, who have maintained their traditions through generations and celebrate them in local festivals and music. Visitors can encounter these living customs in the villages throughout the region.

The park is accessible via the Tbilisi-Zhinvali-Barisakho-Shatili route and offers hiking, camping, guided cultural tours, and wildlife watching opportunities. Visitors should prepare for mountainous terrain and changing weather conditions while wearing proper footwear.

The park is home to rare animal species including leopards, East Caucasian turs, Bezoar goats, brown bears, European lynx, Caucasian red deer, and chamois. This diverse wildlife makes it a refuge for endangered mountain creatures from Europe and Asia.
