Rike-Narikala Ropeway, Aerial lift in eastern Tbilisi, Georgia
The Rike-Narikala Ropeway connects Rike Park with Narikala Fortress by crossing the Mtkvari River over a distance of about 500 meters. The journey travels at an elevation of about 150 meters and takes roughly five minutes with seating for eight passengers per cabin.
The ropeway opened in 2012 and improved access to Narikala Fortress, which dates back to the fourth century. The project was part of urban development to better connect historical sites with modern areas of the city.
The ride above the river reveals the city's main landmarks from a fresh angle. From the cabins, visitors see the Metekhi Church, Freedom Monument, and Mother Georgia statue that define Tbilisi's skyline.
The ropeway operates daily with departures in late morning and evening hours, accommodating small groups to keep the experience relaxed. It is best to visit in early morning or evening hours to avoid crowds.
The glass-sided cabins create the sense of floating freely above the river. This design lets visitors fully experience the transition between the historic lower city and the modern development rising above it.
