Bridge of Peace, Glass footbridge in Tbilisi, Georgia
The Bridge of Peace is a glass and steel pedestrian bridge that crosses the Mtkvari River with transparent panels forming its canopy. The arched structure allows walkers to see the water below while connecting two areas of the city on opposite banks.
Italian architect Michele De Lucchi designed the structure, which opened in 2010 as part of Tbilisi's urban renewal efforts. The bridge became a symbol of the city's transformation during a period of significant development and modernization.
The structure connects Old Tbilisi with modern neighborhoods, representing Georgia's connection between traditional heritage and future aspirations.
The bridge sits between Metekhi and Baratashvili bridges, providing a direct pedestrian route from Erekle II Street to Rike Park. The walkway is flat and straightforward, making it easy for visitors on foot to cross from one bank to the other.
The structure is illuminated at night by about 50,000 LED lights that create changing patterns across the glass surface. This lighting creates an ever-shifting display that makes an evening visit feel quite different from daytime crossing.
