Metekhi bridge, Concrete bridge in Old Tbilisi, Georgia.
Metekhi Bridge is a concrete structure spanning the Mtkvari River in the old city with two arches. The bridge has four traffic lanes and cast-iron railings decorated with Georgian patterns.
The current bridge opened in 1951, replacing earlier wooden and metal structures. This crossing point had been significant since the 8th century.
The bridge offers views of the Metekhi Church and Narikala Fortress rising above the river. From here, visitors can see the historic structures that shape the character of the old city.
The bridge connects central districts and is easily accessible via metro stations Avlabari and Liberty Square, plus multiple bus routes. The best times to cross are outside peak hours in the morning or late afternoon.
The structure uses basalt and Bolnisi tuff stone in its construction and is lit at night by traditional lanterns. These materials and the evening illumination give the bridge a distinctive appearance.
