Zagreb TV Tower, Television tower on Mount Sljeme, Croatia.
The Zagreb TV Tower is a steel structure that rises 169 meters from the peak of Mount Sljeme, situated at an overall elevation of about 1035 meters above sea level. It functions as a broadcasting center for television and radio transmissions serving the Zagreb region.
The structure sustained damage during an aerial attack in 1991 and required three months of repairs afterward. Alternative transmitters ensured broadcasting continued uninterrupted while restoration work took place.
The tower serves as a recognizable landmark that shapes how residents and visitors perceive Zagreb's skyline and mountain landscape. Its presence influences the visual identity of the entire region when viewed from lower elevations across the city.
The tower is currently closed to visitor access, though plans exist to open a restaurant at the 75-meter level in the future. This development would be integrated into a broader recreational project for Mount Sljeme.
Two staff members sheltered at the base of the structure during the 1991 bombing attack and survived the incident. This survival story highlights the building's resilience and the dedication of those who worked to keep it operational.
