Zagreb TV Tower, Television tower on Mount Sljeme, Croatia.
The Zagreb TV Tower is a steel broadcasting tower built on the summit of Mount Sljeme, sitting at a total elevation of around 1035 meters above sea level. It transmits television and radio signals across the Zagreb region.
During the Croatian War in 1991, the tower was hit in an aerial attack and needed about three months of repair work before it was fully operational again. Backup transmitters kept broadcasts running throughout the entire period of restoration.
The tower serves as a recognizable landmark that shapes how residents and visitors perceive Zagreb's skyline and mountain landscape. Its presence influences the visual identity of the entire region when viewed from lower elevations across the city.
The tower is not open to visitors at this time, but there are plans to add a restaurant at around the 75-meter level in the future. The summit of Mount Sljeme can be reached by cable car or on foot via marked trails.
During the 1991 attack, two staff members took shelter at the base of the tower and came out unharmed. The tower itself was never completely taken off air during the conflict, thanks to the backup systems already in place.
