Stradun, Main pedestrian thoroughfare in Old Town Dubrovnik, Croatia
The limestone-paved Stradun extends for 300 meters through the Old Town, connecting the western Pile Gate to the eastern Ploce Gate.
The street originated in the 13th century when a marshy channel between Ragusa and Dubrava settlements was filled to create this central passage.
The ground floors of buildings along Stradun feature uniform shop entrances with semicircular arches, following architectural regulations established after 1667.
Stradun houses numerous retail establishments, restaurants, and landmarks including the Large Onofrio Fountain and the Church of Saint Blaise.
The limestone pavement of Stradun has developed a glass-like surface through centuries of foot traffic from residents and merchants.
