Arena Zagreb, Indoor sports arena in Remetinec, Zagreb, Croatia
Arena Zagreb is a multipurpose sports hall in Zagreb defined by 86 concrete columns arranged in curves along its outer edge, linked by semi-transparent plastic panels. Inside, the building includes wide corridors, multiple food service areas, and flexible seating that can hold between 15,200 and 23,000 people depending on the event setup.
Construction started in 2007 as a joint effort between two major building companies and finished in late 2008 after about 16 months of work. Since opening, the venue has become a key location for major sports events and concerts in Zagreb.
The venue transforms its layout depending on what happens inside, serving athletes one day and hosting international musicians the next. Visitors can see how the same space adapts to host both sports competitions and large concerts.
Arriving early helps avoid long lines at food service areas, especially for concerts or major sports events with large crowds. The building sits in an accessible location with good pedestrian routes and adequate parking nearby for visitors arriving by car.
The building won an award at an international architecture festival in 2009 for its innovative structural design. This recognition highlighted how the arrangement of 86 columns creates both an efficient and visually distinctive form.
