Remetinec prison

Remetinec is a correctional facility in Zagreb comprising interconnected buildings with fortress-like structures, perimeter walls, watchtowers, and multiple secured entry checkpoints. The compound includes separate sections designed to house different categories of detainees and staff administrative areas.

The facility opened in 1987 as Croatia's largest detention center with an initial design capacity of approximately 560 inmates. It gradually expanded and underwent modernizations to accommodate the evolving needs of the national penal system.

The facility operates under Croatian penal regulations, maintaining programs for education, work activities, and rehabilitation services for the inmate population.
